Join us for an invigorating session to deep-dive into the challenges and intersectionality of period poverty in India. From the lack of access to menstrual products to poor sanitation, as we continue our fight for menstrual equity, the time is ripe to review our current laws and policies. Almost ubiquitous across Indian states, period poverty and menstrual rights require innovative policies and solution finding. This includes championing robust policies that prioritize the immediate needs of those who menstruate: access, affordability, safety. 

In the conversation with Ms. Priyanka Chaturvedi and Mr. Prateek Kanwal, we will concentrate on the unique case of India, still reeling in anachronic period stigmas, analyse current government policies, probe into the scope of sexual/reproductive health and sustainable menstruation, and search for aspirational solutions.

About the Speakers

Ms. Priyanka Vickram Chaturvedi is an Indian politician serving as Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra and Deputy Leader of Shiv Sena. Prior to this, she was a member and one of the National Spokespersons of Indian National Congress. She has also been a columnist for Tehelka, Daily News and Analysis, DNA and Firstpost. As a trustee of two NGOs, she works to promote children's education, women's empowerment and health. She also runs a book review blog which is among-st the top ten weblogs on books in India.

Mr. Prateek Kanwal is the Founder of Citizens of Public Leadership, a youth centric policy movement that aims to nurture the next generation of public leaders. A former World Bank scholar, he graduated with a Masters in Public Policy from Harvard Kennedy School. He is setting up a state-of-the-art policy school in Hyderabad. Currently, he is the Head of Strategic Partnerships at Educate Girls, a non profit organisation that aims at tackling issues at the root cause of gender inequality in India’s education system.
